A member asked:

I had an endoscopy done a few months ago and nothing was reported about my liver. my recent blood work indicates i have extremely high liver enzymes. if i had a fatty liver/damaged liver wouldn't the endoscopy pick this up?

Nope: An upper endoscopy would not offer direct information about the status of the liver and has limited value in assessing the liver. An endoscopic ultrasound may provide some information mostly about the gallbladder and bile ducts that may offer insight on the liver situation.

No direct test: Endoscopy provides minimal direct information regarding anatomy or physiology of liver. Discuss other approaches with your doctor.
