I have type 1 diabetes and background retinopathy. is it possible for background retinopathy to stay at the same level into old age and the rest of my life? or will it always progress?

Depends...: Sometimes diabetic retinopathy will improve or even go away, depending on a few factors. The most important thing is to keep your blood sugars under control-try to keep your hemoglobin A1C less than 7, if at all possible. This requires adherence to diet, medications, exercise, etc. See your eye doctor at least yearly to monitor the retinopathy. Best of luck to you!
