I have taken 400mg a day of gabapentin for neuropathy for 12 years. i plan to taper off by 100mg every five days until i stop taking it altogether. doctors have urged me to do this because of my age. what should i expect in withdrawal symptoms?

Gabapentin withdrawn: No reason you can't withdraw gabapentin (Neurontuin). Side effects are constipation and edema; that might improve. Mostly is likelihood of return of symptoms that first required this medication: started most often for numbness or tingling in legs/feet or pain in general. If may take a couple weeks to see if you need to go back on. Sounds like you've been given good advise regards a slow withdrawal
