Moderate chance: Use of any antibiotic over time kills “good” bacteria as well as “bad” can lead to overgrowth of yeast (in vaginal or other areas like the mouth). Doxycycline is probably less likely to cause this than many other antibiotics, but it can. Eating yogurt daily can sometimes help maintain normal bacterial balance, but Dr may need to give Rx for yeast.

Some basics: All germs including yeast compete for food within the GI tract, if you kill of many of the antibiotic sensitive germs the un-affected yeast can have more food to support their growth. While you might get a yeast infection at any time since yeast contaminates the area near your genitals, it may occur more after antibiotics. Taking probiotics can reduce the risk by balancing the gut germs.
