Pain/swelling: As the most common cause of toothache is infection, antibiotics to reduce the chance of spread of that infection is prudent. But there are other posable causes, such as (but not limited to) fracture, parafunctional habits, malocclusion, etc. Please keep appt w skilled Endodontist. In the meantime, take antibiotic until all pills have been. taken.

RETREATMENT: You have a failed root canal that is sometimes common but not your or the dentists fault. I have seen this in my practice so i refer the patient to an ENDODONTIST for a retreatment of the root canal. You have an infection and possible canal that has live nerve tissue left that's why you have pain and swelling. Take the antibiotics and pain relievers as per-scribed .
