Viral or vitamin D: Acute urticaria (hives) usually resolves within 6 weeks. An external cause can be identified in approximately 50% of all cases: viral infections are the most common causes and less common triggers include specific drugs or food. They can be treated with allegra or Claritin or Zyrtec 1-2 tablets a day (Ref MANAGING URTICARIA: EMJ DEC 2020)
