My 6 year old son has red splotches on his arms that itch it almost looks like hives of some sort. what can i do?

How long?: Need to know how long he has had it, how long do these itchy blotches last. You may try putting him on an antihistamine 2x daily to see if this helps. If the problem persists beyond 6 wks, consider seeing an allergist. If the blotches last more than a few days or leaves a discolored area, they are not hives which usually go away within hours.
