A member asked:

What causes stool to be black on one side but normal on the other side? could that indicate internal hemorrhoids?

Usually not: Usually, blood from hemorrhoids is bright red; blood from bleeding in or near the stomach is usually black (this is termed melena) due to the effect of stomach acid on the blood. It is possible for a blood clot to pass from the stomach to the rectum, resulting in black-colored stool predominantly on one side of the stool.
