That said, the cited temperature is well within the normal range & most coughing/flehm is due to nasal irritants. A nasal washout with saline nose drops helps most as will removal of dust/fragrances/smoke or other airborne irritants.

More details: The degree of prematurity, presence of chronic lung disease and other conditions such as heart disease are important factors. If there is a change from your baby's usual state, given the prematurity, a virtual visit with HT or your physician is recommended. The phlegm may be due to nasal congestion and a nasal saline rinse may be helpful. Feed at an angle of 30 degrees or more.
