A member asked:

If your lifetime risk is 1 in 8 for a health issue. and you read something like this from a test done that increased risk about 14% over the spontaneous rate for the general population does this increase your risk by .14% or 14%? super anxious?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Over general risk: The numbers you cite just mean your lifetime risk increases .14 X 1/8 over a lifetime. This is an theoretical calculated increase of 0.0175 or less than 2% over baseline. All such projections are theoretical and based on population studies. Freaking out does not appear supported by the projection.
