A member asked:

I had my routine yearly blood work done 1 week after receiving my 2nd pfizer vaccine. the platelet levels were above 700. could the vaccine have contributed to increased platelet count?

You must recheck it!: A platelet count of 700K or higher is not normal ....and it is unlikely to be related to the COCID-19 Vaccine injection. I would recommend that you obtain a repeat check of your CBC and Platelet count. If the repeat reading is more 450K, it means something is wrong in your blood formation. This should then be followed up with a Hematologist who can investigate the cause of your high platelet count

Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, iron deficiency is a common cause of elevated platelet count, It may have been aggravated by inflammation associated with vaccine. Wish you good health!

There have been isolated reports of people who had a drop in platelet count after receiving an mRNA COVID 19 vaccine. I have not read about any cases in which vaccination led to a marked increase in platelet count.
