A member asked:

Can a bronchoscopy be used to look for cancer?

4 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Yes: That's one of its main purposes. If a possible lesion is identified on imaging a bronchoscopic biopsy is often the next step.

Yes: It can be used to both diagnose and stage lung cancer. Navigational bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (ebus) can be especially useful.

Yes: This is very often why a bronchoscopy is done. It can be used to directly visualize the airways. It can also be used to perform biopsies of either visualized areas of the lung and airways or areas more peripheral. There is also endobronchial ultrasound and electromagnetic navigational bronchscopy now available.
