A member asked:

I can feel my shin bone? not the calf but the front bone. i've never been able to feel it like i do now. skeletal. i'm 48 and i noticed a little over a year ago. makes me cringe. what can i do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

NORMAL: THE EDGEOF THE SHIN BONE OR TIBIA, IS NORMALLY COVERED ONLY BY A THIN TISSUE CALLED PERIOSTEUM. OVER THAT IS ONLY THE SKIN. FAT AND SWELLING CAN DISGUISE THE EDGE MAKING IT HARDER TO FEEL. THE BONE EXTENDS MEDIALLY FOR 3-4 CENTIMETERS JUST UNDER THE SKIN. SUPERFICIAL NATURE REQUIRED EXTRA PROTECTION IN ANCIENT WARFARE CALLED SHEAVES.
