Bone bruise: If the area isn't swollen or discolored, it may be a periosteal injury or "bone bruise". It should resolve in another week or two. If not, i'd see a podiatrist for an x-ray and a thorough exam to make sure you haven't chipped one of the bones of the instep (navicular). Treatment for a bone bruise is simply not doing things or wearing shoes that hurt.

Common: I would ice it when you get the chance. As long as it gradually improves you should be okay. If the pain increases see podiatrist.
