A member asked:

In the case of central cyanosis, if the lips are purple-ish in color, will the cheeks still be pink? or will they become a dusky color too? is central cyanosis accompanied by peripheral?

Different mechanisms: Central cyanosis indicates that the oxygen level in the arteries is not sufficient. Central cyanosis shows up most obviously where the skin is thin and capillaries are superficial. Areas like the lips, nail beds, tongue, eyelids and nose are most common. The cheeks will be much more pink than the areas names above. Peripheral cyanosis is due to vascular compromise and shows up in the hands/feet.
