Infection: He most likely has a residual infection from that tooth. Have him see the surgeon for a follow up.

Infection treatment: Your husband had a tooth removed to treat a severe infection, and dental infections are quite virulent. He was then placed on a strong antibiotic. Because of the infection his body developed a fever to try to combat the infection that had spread from the tooth. It can take 48-72 hours for antibiotic to become optimally effective. Call the General Dentist or Oral Surgeon that treated him for update
