A member asked:

How likely would candesartan cause high or low potassium or affect kidneys/liver? current k levels are towards the high end of normal. kidney function normal. i also have paroxysmal af and concerned if it could cause this to flare up?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Could occur.: In the presence of kidney impairment, candesartan and other ARB drugs may cause high potassium levels. In patients taking candesartan or similar drugs patients with impaired kidney function should be informed of this problem and a list of foods with high potassium content should be provided to the patient.
