Usually it means: that you are losing too much potassium from either your GI tract or in your urine. It's very uncommon for hypokalemia(low potassium) to stem from poor dietary intake. There are multiple hormonal issues that can cause this and primary issues with the kidney(with noted intact creatinine clearance). Due you have any other metabolic issues like alkalosis ?
