A member asked:

Is it ok for a 6 years old to take dairy products when having severe constipation? how about skim or lactose free milk?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Limit dairy: Unfortunately, you do need to limit dairy intake when dealing with chronic constipation. It has nothing to do with the fact percentage the milk is, because it's the cow's milk protein that causes the constipation. Also, not the sugar source- so lactose free doesn't help. Should limit dairy to 1-2 servings daily. Increase water intake to 80-100 ounces daily and eat lots of high fiber foods!
