GUM/DENTAL ABSCESS: As the cheek is swollen, she needs to be seen by her dentist ASAP. Give Ibuprofen 10 mg/kg every 6 hours for pain and swelling until you get the appointment. Give her plenty of fluid to drink, a soft diet, soup, etc.

Get to dentist ASAP: The most important thing is to get into the dentist as soon as possible, preferably tomorrow. They hold the key to diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Everything else I say is just symptom relief. Take ibuprofen for pain and swelling. Hold cold pack on cheek (wrapped in thin towel), 20 minutes out of each hour. Can also use infant teething gel on area inside mouth or gargle with salt water.
