Honey and lemon: have been found in recent studies to work equally well as medications to relieve symptoms compared to doing nothing, and is much safer for coughs and chest congestion along with pushing fluids and humidification. Hard candy such as a sucker works about the same. If nose is congested, saline nasal drops or fine mist will thin secretions. If nose is very runny, a small dose of antihistamine is ok

Benadryl (diphenhydramine): If she has a lot of nasal congestion you can try benadryl (diphenhydramine) 1mg/kg per dose. This may dry her up and lessen runny nose and cough
