A member asked:

My son (3) is on day 4 of chicken pox. he wasn't vaccinated. he's got a cough today and he's had much more breakouts. i'm worried about internal infection. or that he's contracted something else. what can we do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Medical evaluation: Varicella pneumonia and secondary bacterial infection of the varicella lesions are two common complications of varicella. This is why we vaccinate - not to avoid varicella, but the complications that can arise. At this point, with having developed a cough, he needs medical evaluation to make sure no pneumonia has developed. At that visit, can also assess if any infection of lesions.
