Once in a while : Melatonin use in children should only be used as part of an overall sleep improvement plan and even then on a periodic basis There are no large scale studies on frequent use in children in that young age group. Also want to make sure it is pharmaceutical grade melatonin so you know the exact dose you are giving to your child

A sleep consult may be helpful. The bedtime routine of bath and a bedtime story is recommended. Your child's bedtime and wake time should be consistent. Observation for snoring, apnea nightly with video of episodes may be helpful to your PCP.
