Inflammation : It is probably an acute inflammation of muscle or soft tissues. Try rest, moist hot compress and an OTC anti inflammatory. If this does not help within 72 hours see your doctor for a definitive diagnosis. Good Luck

Hand pain: I assume there has been no recent injury, but it could be a case of strain or overuse from work chores, exercise, etc. Arthritis can be localised to specific joint tenderness. Redness and swelling are signs of infection. Try immersing your hand in hot water and gently move fingers. Take anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen or naproxen. See your physician if not improved.
