Depends on Onset: If your left hand and finger tips became numb suddenly, say, after an acute injury, you should go to the er to be evaluated for potential nerve damage. If the numbness came on gradually over a few days or weeks with no injury, it is likely not an emergency situation and you can make an outpatient appointment with your primary care physician for an evaluation. Carpal tunnel is most likely.
