Symptom treatment: PCOS is caused by a hormone imbalance that leads to multiple cysts on the ovaries, inflammation of the uterus/ovaries and sometimes insulin resistance. There is no cure. Dr's typically treat the symptoms of PCOS to alleviate the discomfort, irregular bleeding, excess hair, and acne. Patients with PCOS can have endometrial thickening which may lead to cancer. Balanced hormones can lessen the risk.
