A member asked:

I have gastritis and have been given a 30 pack of esomeprazole 20mg. can you take esomeprazole for more than 14 days?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

14 days: Esomeprazole can be taken for days, weeks, months or years, but most physicians write a new prescription for gastritis for 2-4 weeks because we want to ensure that our diagnosis is correct and that symptoms which persist beyond that period are carefully followed up as a condition more serious than gastritis may be the problem and we wouldn't want that condition ignored and go undiagnosed.
