Phlegm: If you are short of breath, this should be evaluated by a physician, since it can represent a pneumonia or other lung condition. If it is not serious, might go to a pharmacy and see if they have an expectorant such as guaifenesin. Sometimes, heating up water and inhaling the steam (carefully) or spend some time in a hot shower can also help loosen up some lung secretions.
