Certainly: I assume you are referring to someone infected with HIV. Viral loads and CD4 counts are both quantitative measurements at a moment in time. Both are used to gauge the severity of the infection and monitor response to therapy. Taking an antiviral drug could have dropped the viral load initially allowing CD4 counts to rise and then from loss of effectiveness or missed doses viral load could rise.

Agree with Dr. Z: Viral load can go up without change in CD4. There is a lag in change in CD4 counts. It is imperative that you see your doctor for proper treatment as effective medications are available. Do not wait to become symptomatic before taking anti-viral medication. Wish you good health!
