Common signs: Common signs and symptoms of infection are: erythema (redness to the area), swelling, warmth to touch, abscess (fluid collecting below skin). More concerning signs of spreading infection are fever ( above100.4), or red streaking moving up the arm or leg (lymphangitis).

Need to examine: Redness, swelling, discharge, appearance of pus, fever are indications of infection. You may use triple antibiotic cream, available over the counter, while you are waiting to see your doctor. If the redness and swelling are spreading, go to the hospital immediately.
