If doctor prescribed me doxycycline monohydrate 100 mg 2x a day for 10 days for a bacteria found from vaginal discharge culture, what bacteria is she treating? chlamydia? bv? the only thing mentioned was bacteria. thank you doctors?

Ask the doc: The simple answer is to ask the doctor who did the test & prescribed the meds. Without the information s/he obtained during the tests it is hard to know what if anything they were treating or just prescribing out of habit.

Chlamydia: Doxycycline is one of the preferred drugs for treatment of genital chlamydia infection. I presume chlamydia was detected from vaginal specimen by NAATs, not by culture. BV (bacterial vaginosis) is generally treated with metronidazole, clindamycin, or tinidazole.
