A member asked:

What causes boogers and is it ok to leave them in our noses?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Natural mucus/yes: The inner lining of your nasal passages is coated with a thin layer of wet mucus. This functions to help add water to the air you breathe to protect your lungs. Air achieves ~100% humidity by the time it reaches inside your lungs to exchange o2 with co2. If air is too dry it hurts the lungs. Other issues like allergy increase mucus flow. When it dries boggers form.
