A member asked:

When sleeping how does sleeping help repair our body?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Growth hormone : During sleep , growth hormone released by the pituitary helps repair the cells of the body . Stress hormone levels are lowered, and the immune system releases special proteins to fight inflammation . Lack of sleep also appears to affect the balance of hunger hormones . In addition , sleep helps the brain to sort and process information from the day, helping to create long term memories.
