A member asked:

Could it be feasible that the body needs more sleep as we age?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The body does not need more sleep as you age but the quality of sleep changes. Therefore, you may wake up more and actually have less sleep during the same time as you did when younger. That means you may need more time in bed to get the same amount of sleep. As well, if dementia sets in during later years, all sleep patterns change and people with dementia sleep more in the day and in the night.
