Exercise and stretch: If there is a family history, talk with your doc too get standing x rays to determine if any scoliosis eXists. It can be recorded regardless. Discuss with your doc and ask for PT referral to start stretching away from the curve. Repeat yearly to measure progress. Good luck

Nothing you can: Scoliosis is commonly described as a lateral curvature of the spine. Most cases of scoliosis have no clear etiology (idiopathic) and spinal curvature associated with neuromuscular diseases/syndromes and congenital scoliosis account for the rest.

Basics: The cause of the majority of scoliosis is unknown. ( you can't prevent this) Most arise quietly during the rapid growth phase in puberty, stabilizing after growth stops. If recognized early, physical therapy or bracing can prevent worsening. This is seldom done for minor curves. At 17 your growth has likely stopped & a minor curve will not progress.
