BASICS: At that age the nose is mostly soft cartilage & tissue. Breaks are uncommon. Yet a blood vessel can break inside & result in a blood pocket that needs to be identified & treated. Failure to do so can result in complications. I would have him examined today to identify any issue that needs immediate attention.
