I took percocet 10 mg twice a day and found out i am pregnant. i quit taking it as soon as i found out. i could only have been 5 weeks along, when i found out. is the fetus at high risk or any risk of birth defects or any complications?

Risk greater than50%: The first 12 weeks of pregnancy are the most critical in the physical formation of the baby. Taking Percocet during this time while there is rapid cell division and specialization of cell groups has been shown to cause certain birth defects including Gastroschisis, cleft palate, spina bifida and congenital heart defects. Alert your OB Dr and make sure they do high level ultrasounds.
