Common: Group A Streptococci bacteria is the most common kind of bacterial infection that results in tonsillitis in babies. Not generally: Tonsils are not generally enlarged at this age.Babies can certainly get throat infections, but most commonly, they are viral, not strep. We don’t see strep commonly under 1 year of age.The exception to this is occasionally when a baby is in daycare or sometimes if a sibling has it. Then the treatment is with antibiotics.Otherwise it is to increase fluids and use acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain.
