I am 42 years old and have had the implant for 5 years. my period is so irregular and i am wondering if it could be the implant. sometimes i would have my period for about 14 days with a break of 2-3 days inbetween. i do not want more children.

Normal side effect: The Progestin Implant has a 99.4% pregnancy prevention rate, which makes it one of the best ways to prevent a pregnancy. It lasts 3 years, and needs to be replaced. Many women on this single hormone contraceptive can have breakthrough bleeding, irregular periods or no periods. Talk to your Dr about your continued bleeding and whether an IUD or other method would be better for you.
