A member asked:

My 20 month old girl had an abdominal ct scan. i am getting conflicting information about this online. should i be concerned about the level of radiation and potential future cancer risk given her age? what sort of msv dose would she have received?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

~10mSv: People are subjected to background radiation continuously from environmental sources (sun). The ~10mSv units of radiation for a simple abdominal CT equates to about 3 years of regular background radiation. I would not consider one study worrisome. Having the same information that would be gained by an exploratory surgery without such trauma does make it a worthy study.
