A member asked:

If have type 16 and now taking hpv vaccine. the vaccine can protect me next type16 infection or can get infected with type 16 again?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Basics: Once you are infected with a strain of HPV you likely carry it for life & develop antibodies to it that help suppress it . You generally don't spread if after it clears by 2 yrs, but you do not get re-infected. The HPV vaccine does not cure/alter existing infections. It helps you develop antibodies that protect against the strains you do not have.
