How do you know you have broken your ankle?

Basics: You know for sure after it is x-rayed. You suspect it if there is an obvious deformity, if there is bruising in the skin surrounding or below the ankle, if you have pain or inability to move the joint freely or maintain a normal posture/movement over the joint.

THERE ARE 3 BONES YOU CAN BREAK IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE A BROKEN ANKLE TIBIA, FIBULA AND TALUS. DEPENDING ON THE MECHANISM OF INJURY OTHERWISE KNOWN AS HOW DID THE INJURY HAPPEN. THE BASIS SYMPTOMS ARE PAIN , SWELLING, BRUISING AND THE INABILITY TO WALK OR MOVE THE ANKLE. EITHER GO TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM, URGENT CARE OR ANKLE SPECIALIST FOR AN XRAY AND THAT WOULD BE DEFINITIVE FOR A FRACTURE.
