OK to drink water: It did not dehydrate you more. Your IV had plenty of water. Your response is to the Sodium Chloride. Your body is wanting to dilute the concentration of sodium chloride in your bloodstream. Continue to drink plain water until you are not thirsty any more. Do not drink any alchohol or any dehydrating liquids such as cucumber water or green tea for the next few days.

IV sodium chloride: It's unlikely but possible if you received hypertonic NaCl instead of the more usual normal or half normal saline infusion. It's more likely that your dehydration wasn't adequately corrected or that the process that caused your dehydration is still operative. I recommend checking serum electrolytes, bun, creatinine, calcium, phosphorus and a cbc with diff to check your hydration and kidney status
