Tissue damage: Pain is the bodies warning signal that tissue is injured. It sometimes takes a while on internal structures for the swelling that accompanies tissue damage to stretch pain fibers enough that you notice. Moist heat can improve blood flow to the site & speed healing but it may increase the pain some. A cold compress may help the pain. Most of these will heal but if this spooks you see your doc.

See below: Agree with Dr.F. However, if it does not get better in day or so, especially if there are vesicles, it may be herpes infection that can be transmitted through kissing, if you were not exposed to herpes type 1 before, it would be prudent to see your doctor. Get HPV vaccination. Wish you good health!
