Can you define and describe lyme disease?

Lyme disease: Lyme disease is a multisystem illness that primarily affects the skin, nervous system, heart, and joints. It is caused by a spirochete, borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato which is transmitted by deer ticks of the ixodes ricinus complex.

Infection: Lyme disease is caused by a bug called borrelia burgdoferi, it is usually carried by a tick. It is more prevalent in the northeast area of the U.S., but you can get it anywhere. It usually starts with a rash that looks like a bulls eye mark on your skin. If the infection is not caught early it can go onto cause a neural infection. Consult your pcp for more information if you think you have it.

Bacteria from ticks: Lyme disease is a bacteria spread by ticks. The disease has 3 stages. 1. Bulls eye rash. 2. Weakness, fatigue, and possibly facial paralysis or eye infection. 3. Chronic arthritis and neurological problems.

Lyme Dz: Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria that is transmitted by tick bites. After contracting lyme, a rash can be seen at the site of the bite that looks like a bullseye. Typically symptoms initially are flu-like. Lyme is easily treatable with antibiotics. Without treatment, lyme can progress to arthritis and meningitis.

Bacterial Infection: Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that is transmitted through a type of tick. The bacteria can cause alot of things from a simple rash, to fevers, joint pain to more serious things such as meningitis and heart problems. If you think you were bitten by a tick or have lyme disease, please see your doctor. It's very easily treatable as long as you dont wait.

A Tick-borne disease: A tick-borne disease that can have a broad range of symptoms. Usually starts with a fever/aches/headache/joints aches, and a classic bulls-eye rash 1-3 weeks after a bite by an infected deer-tick. If treated early, no long term problems if not, can progress to joint damage, arthritis, brain infection, heart muscle infection, etc.

Complex infection: As my colleagues mention, lyme disease is caused by a bacteria, borrelia burgdorferi, & is commonly thought to be transmitted by deer ticks. However, half of those proven to have lyme don't recall being bitten by a tick. It is proven that lyme can be transmitted by biting flies & possibly by mosquitoes, fleas, spiders etc. It can be transmitted in utero to babies & probably sexually. See comment.
