Lyme: Caused by a spiral bacteria (borrelia burgdorferi), symptoms are fever, headache, fatigue, and a rash called erythema migrans which expands out like a snakem leaving a pale center. If untreated, infection can spread to joints, heart, and the nervous system. Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings (e.g., rash), and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks.

See below: Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria called borrelia burgdorferi, named after the scientist willy burgdorfer who discovered the bacterial pathogen - a spirochete (spiral appearing bacteria). It is transmitted by tick saliva but primarily only after being embedded for at least 48 hours. It causes disease by infecting many types of cells and destroying their function.
