Very Contagious: The Chicken Pox virus is highly contagious and can cause significant disease in unvaccinated persons. You can bathe your son, but understand that anything he comes in contact with (towels, soap, bathtub/shower, clothes, sheets, etc) may contain virus and it can infect others who have not been vaccinated (esp under 6 months old). See ER for dizziness, rapid heartbeat, trouble breathing, tremors.

Certainly: Regular bathing is not only okay but recommended. A common complication of the weeping sores is the invasion by skin germs that can lead to bacterial skin infection. Blotting the sores with hydrogen peroxide/drying them along with regular soap & water baths can reduce the chance of this happening. Monitor the sores daily to see that they dry out without increasing local redness or drainage.
