Talk to Orthopedic : Knee menisci are small pads of cartilage located between the lower leg (tibia) and the thigh (femur) that serve to disperse friction in the knee joint. An extrusion means that the cartilage pad has moved out from between the two bones and there is now more friction and much more pain in the joint. The decision to repair depends on the age of the patient, level of pain and disruption of function.
