My father is in hospital for covid, pneumonia. symptoms since sun 5 july. admitted saturday 18. do they still continue to test for covid, is it swab or bloods. the swab will show presence, how do you test if its active?

Active till negative: Sorry to hear. If his test is positive he has the virus and has it until a test comes back negative or sometimes two tests come back negative.

Imaging/ABG: PCR testing may be positive for some time, but does not always correspond to active viral infection. Chest imaging to diagnose changes in lung involvement and treatment with an anti-viral agent, Remdesivir is advised. Steroids may be useful earlier in the course, but not routinely later in the disease. His ABG will be followed by his physicians. An inbox consult may be helpful on Healthtap.
