Basics: A loose naval is common to newborns& needed since blood flowed through that portal during pregnancy.It is not uncommon for them to have a minor hernia there after birth,that increases in size if they fuss.As long as it can be pushed back in without difficulty it is not a problem. Most disappear as they get older. Surgery is rarely done if it cannot be pushed in or it persists beyond a year
